Our Primary classrooms are for children
2 1/2 yrs to 6 yrs old
*must be potty trained
We offer a carefully prepared environment
that encourages children to learn individually,
at their own pace.
Our Montessori teachers are trained to put
your child in touch with things they are most interested in learning.
The results are joy, immense satisfaction and excitement about learning.
Your child has extraordinary powers of mind. He or she possesses a once-in-a-lifetime ability to simply absorb information from his or her environment, like a sponge. Dr. Montessori called this phenomenon "the absorbent mind". We have prepared a dynamic learning environment with a wealth of concrete, manipulative learning materials that encourage the child to discover and learn throughout this limited period of their life.
One of the most striking aspects of the Montessori classroom is its peacefulness. There is a deep sense of respect from the children towards themselves, others and the environment. This respect is modeled by the teachers toward the children. Through "grace and courtesy" exercises, we teach children how to problem solve conflicts, how to act politely in varying situations and how to be kind and helpful to their friends. The result is a cohesive community of young children.
In a Montessori prepared environment children are mixed in ages, within a 3 year development span. (Infants/Toddler - Birth to 3 yrs, Primary - 3yr to 6 yrs, & Elementary - 6yrs to 9yrs) Mixing ages enables the older, more socially advanced and capable children to become role models for the younger ones. A feeling of community develops as younger children are aided by older ones and as older children learn patience and an appreciation for other perspectives through their experiences with younger children. Chronological age grouping of children, as in traditional education, fosters leadership based on outgoing personalities. In our Primary classroom, even the shyest 5 year old is looked up to as a leader by the younger children and asked for his help and assistance.
3 year olds in a multi-age classroom
The youngest children fill their days with activities many activities. They might learn to sweep the floor, serve themselves snack, and learn how to share with friends. They also experiment with sensorial materials that educate their visual, auditory and tactile senses. They are introduced to letter sounds and numbers. When the class gathers together, activities range from singing and playing games to Spanish or geography lessons.

As the child progresses in his experiences, he is building a strong foundation of knowledge of sounds and symbols which lay the groundwork for reading and writing in the future. He is introduced to numbers and the decimal system, with the most amazing concrete materials to show him the way. He learns about the world around him, including plants, animals, art & music. In addition to being introduced to such a wonderful variety of curriculum, he is always working at his own pace.
5 year olds in a multi-age classroom
It is during his third year that everything comes to fruition for the child. Children have developed confidence and a sense of accomplishment and serve as models for younger children. Reading, writing and mathematical understanding blossom from the many seeds that were planted in the previous two years. The child leaves the program with a strong set of academic skills; but far more importantly, with the attitude that learning is fun, exciting and boundless. He is now ready to move on to a traditional first grade setting or continue on with a Montessori elementary program.
The Full Day - 4yr 9mo. to 5 year old children who attend the 9:00am to 3:00 pm program will spend the morning in one of our mixed age classrooms until noon. Then the older children from other classrooms join together and spend the afternoon together. Having a smaller group of just older children allows for more advanced, age appropriate exploration of each of the Montessori areas.
